In Gratitude for Our Many Blessings – Ruth Institute’s Third Annual Rosary Around the Lake to Take Place October 11

In spite of the coronavirus and the devastation Hurricane Laura wrought on Lake Charles, The Ruth Institute will hold its Third Annual Rosary Around the Lake in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on Sunday, October 11.

Due to a variety of unique difficulties, this year’s event will not be around the lake, but around the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (935 Bilboa Street) instead.

Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., said: “Between all the uncertainty created by the coronavirus and Hurricane Laura, we wondered if it would even be possible to hold the event this year. But we decided that prayer is more important now than ever. Please help us show Our Blessed Mother how grateful we are for the many blessings and protections she has showered on us.”

Morse noted that even though Lake Charles was devastated by Laura, “Both our Cathedral and the Shrine of Our Lady Star of the Sea were untouched. And our clergy here in Lake Charles have made Christ in the sacraments present to us. We are truly blessed!”

Participants will assemble inside the Cathedral and recite the Joyful Mysteries at 2:30 PM, and then process around the neighborhood. Benediction and recitation of the Sorrowful Mysteries will take place at an outdoor altar. The event, concluding with recitation of the Glorious Mysteries, will be over by 4 PM.

A Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary Form will be celebrated at the Cathedral at 5 PM.

Bishop Glen John Provost of Lake Charles wrote to Morse: “I wish to commend you for organizing this worthy demonstration of our faith in Our Lord and His Blessed Mother. Please be assured of prayers and gratitude and looking forward to the event.”

As in years past, the Lake Charles event will be part of an international prayer event, Rosary Coast to Coast. This gathering involves tens of thousands around the world.

Lake Charles Bishop and Mayor to Help Lead Annual “Rosary Around the Lake”

The Ruth Institute is proud to announce that Bishop Glen John Provost will lead the Apostles Creed and Mayor Nic Hunter will lead the first Our Father when the faithful gather to pray the Rosary October 13 at the second annual “Rosary Around the Lake.”

This event, hosted by The Ruth Institute, is in conjunction with Rosary Coast to Coast started by Fr. Heilman of Madison, Wisconsin, last year. October 13 was chosen in honor of the Miracle of the Sun in Fatima, Portugal, in 1917.

“We are honored and grateful to have the participation of our very own bishop and mayor to start off this year’s Rosary Around the Lake,” said Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, founder and president of The Ruth Institute.

“Lake Charles is an incredible city in an area with a rich Catholic heritage,” Morse added, noting that many local businesses and professional offices have been promoting the event with signs in their windows and fliers for their customers. These businesses include The Center for Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, Mr. Bill’s Seafood, Hobgood’s Pharmacy, Great Harvest Bread Company, Big Daddy’s Sports Grill, and St. Luke’s Medical Clinic.

Last year’s event brought more than 800 people. “We expect an even larger crowd this year,” Morse said.

Rosary Around the Lake will be held at the northwest end of the Lake Charles Civic Center. Groups of 11 will spread around the lakefront, wearing ten blue “Hail Mary” shirts and one gold “Our Father” shirt. People will begin assembling at 2 PM. The recitation of the Rosary will begin at 3 PM, to coordinate with the national effort.

Participants are encouraged to register for the event here, where more information can be found.

The Ruth Institute is a global interfaith coalition to defend the family and build a civilization of love. “Whether you are Catholic or not, we encourage everyone to join us in prayer in his or her own way, for our country and for the world,” Morse said. “So join us Sunday, October 13!”

For the second year in a row, The Ruth Institute is hosting Rosary Around the Lake in Lake Charles. This event, to take place October 13, is in conjunction with Fr. Richard Heilman of the Diocese of Madison, Wisconsin’s “Rosary Coast to Coast.” October 13 is the anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima, which tens of thousands of people witnessed.

“Last year’s national Rosary Coast to Coast totaled over 1,200 sites in the US and in over 50 countries. Here in Lake Charles, more than 800 of the faithful took part,” said Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Founder and President of The Ruth Institute. The Ruth Institute, a global interfaith coalition to defend the family and build a civilization of love, has its headquarters here in Lake Charles.

“This year we expect an even larger crowd,” added Dr. Morse. “We are honored Bishop Glen John Provost will lead the recitation of the Apostles Creed, and Mayor Nic Hunter will lead the recitation of the first Our Father.”

Dr. Morse also noted the support of many local businesses and professional offices that have posted fliers for the event in their stores. The Center for Chiropractic and Rehabilitation, Mr. Bill’s Seafood, Hobgood’s Pharmacy, and Great Harvest Bread Company, among others, have supported Rosary Around the Lake. “The support of the local community has been so encouraging,” Morse added.

Rosary Around the Lake will be held at the northwest end of the Lake Charles Civic Center. The recitation of the Rosary will begin at 3 PM, to coordinate with the national effort.

Participants are encouraged to buy shirts here and to register for the event here, where more information can be found. Deadline for purchasing t-shirts is September 25.

“If we have a large enough group creating a ‘living rosary’ on the lakefront,” Morse said, “we may even be visible from Highway 10!”

She added, “With all the problems in the world today, we can all use more prayer in our lives. We are praying for our country, our church, and our families. I invite everyone, Catholic or not, to join us Sunday, October 13.”
